Mount Fuji:
One-Day Summit Climb

3776 meters.
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Japan’s most legendary summit.
Rising above the plains of central Japan stands Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the country’s most iconic summit. For centuries, the Japanese people have felt a deep connection to this sacred mountain. More than simply the tallest peak in Japan, Fuji represents many of the virtues often associated with the spirit of the country. Peace, beauty, harmony with nature, perseverance, and quiet endurance are all reflected in the presence of Mount Fuji.

Depending on your fitness level, our ascent will follow either the Subashiri Trail or the Fuji Yoshida Trail. The evening before the climb, Ricardo Onoma, founder and head guide, will personally meet your group and stay with the group at the mountain lodge. This allows everyone to settle in, go over the plan for the climb, and prepare for the journey ahead.
The next morning, we will accompany your group to the transportation of your choice and make sure the ascent begins smoothly and on time. From the first steps toward the mountain to your departure the following day, everything is arranged so that you can focus on the experience itself and continue safely to your next destination after the climb.
The Fuji Yoshida Trail begins high on the mountain at about 2,300 meters and is the shortest and most accessible route to the summit. The Subashiri Trail starts lower at 1,950 meters and is more demanding, but rewards hikers with quieter paths and more scenic nature along the way. Guests who choose this route often enjoy the sense of solitude and the richer mountain atmosphere.
No matter which path we take, reaching the summit of Fuji is an unforgettable moment. Watching the sunrise while standing above the clouds with the vast Japanese landscape stretching out below is an experience that few places in the world can offer.

For the Fuji Yoshida route, we will stay in a mountain lodge in the valley town of Fujiyoshida at the foot of the mountain. On the morning of the climb, we will take a short bus or taxi ride up to the 5th Station of the trail, where the ascent begins. From there, we climb steadily towards the summit’s 10th Station and usually reach the top after about six hours. After spending some time on Japan’s highest point, we descend in roughly four hours and return to the 5th Station. From there, you can continue our journey toward Tokyo or spend another relaxing night in Fujiyoshida.
The Subashiri route approaches the mountain from the town of Gotemba. To make sure we can start early, we will go up to the 5th Station of the Subashiri Trail the evening before and stay nearby. This allows us to begin the climb calmly the next morning without needing transportation at sunrise. The ascent usually takes seven to eight hours to reach the summit and about four hours to descend back to the 5th Station. After the climb, you can travel toward Tokyo, stay another night in Gotemba, or visit Fujiyoshida the next day to enjoy more views of Mount Fuji.

- Participants must be in good physical condition. Climbing Mount Fuji in a single day is demanding and requires endurance.
- While the mountain is considered beginner-friendly, this experience is recommended only for guests with hiking or mountain experience.
- For safety and pacing reasons, we will lead from the back of the group and maintain the minimum required speed, especially if the group is larger.
- All participants must carry their passports or a valid ID during the climb.
- Proper equipment is essential. Good hiking shoes and a warm jacket are the most important items, but weather protection and suitable clothing for high altitude are also required. Mountain guards may deny access to the mountain if your gear is insufficient.
- In some cases, participants must bring their own breakfast, as departures may be too early for the hotel’s breakfast service.
- Please bring a small trash bag. Mount Fuji follows a strict “pack in, pack out” policy, and no trash may be left on the mountain.
- Guests with a pacemaker or serious heart conditions should refrain from participating.
- Mountain rescue operations can be very expensive. If rescue teams need to be deployed, costs can reach up to 10,000 USD and may not be covered by standard travel insurance.
- In case of an emergency, we will remain with the group. Emergency shelters and mountain huts are located along the routes.
- We are trained in emergency response, including CPR and first aid. Your safety is our highest priority throughout the experience.
- The climb will take place in most weather conditions. If the weather becomes too severe and the access roads to the 5th Station are closed, the climb cannot take place. Cancellations due to weather are handled on a case-by-case basis.
